In June 2023 I took part in

Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year

The heat I was in was set on Albert Dock in Liverpool. The pods were set up looking towards The Museum of Liverpool, The Great Western Railway Building behind which were glimpses of the Port of Liverpool building and the Liver Building.

Capturing something of the scene in front of me, considering the huge range of iconic architecture needed an early decision about what I could realistically achieve in a limited time, plus some hefty cropping as time became short.

I’m not usually to be found drawing urban landscapes but I was more than happy to receive these observations.

Kate Bryan ‘great compositional choice.’

Kathleen Soriano ‘She’s very interested in capturing elements of what’s in front of us today rather than the whole and its very very subtle.’

Kathleen Soriano  ‘What I love about Rose is that she’s given us fragments of the day: fragments of the boat mast, fragments of the Great Western Railway and the way in which the ropes of the masts are leading the eye across and down the paper I think are really effective…lovely little touches.’

Kate Bryan ‘I was unsure about Rose using the black paper but when I look at the compositional choice that she made there is a lot of black in it; it gives us something moody and evocative.’
